OBOA Building Advisory Council OBOA BAC

 

The OBOA is pleased to be represented on the newly created Building Advisory Council (BAC). The BAC was established by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to provide strategic advice to the Minister on policy, technical and administrative issues related to the Building Code Act, 1992 and the Building Code. Specifically, the mandate is to provide strategic advice on the implementation of the recent building regulatory changes resulting from the Building Code Statute Law Amendment Act, 2002 (formerly known as Bill 124), and ongoing technical and policy issues related to the Building Code. The creation of BAC was the final recommendation from the original BRRAG report to be implemented. The stakeholder groups that have representatives on BAC include..


The makeup of BAC is from a broad spectrum of stakeholders across the building industry representing both the private and public sectors. These representatives will use their vast areas of expertise to provide recommendations to the Minister with consideration given to impacts on public safety, technical feasibility, economic impacts, social impacts, code harmonization, policy goals and the underlying purpose of the Building Code.

The Council is Co-Chaired by Lynn Balfour, Vice President OBOA, and Danny Young, President of OSPE.  Comments and issues relating to the implementation of Bill 124 or administrative and technical issues related to the BCA and the building code may be directed to the Co-Chairs of BAC through the stakeholder groups.
