Following the successful 51st OBOA AMTS in Ottawa, our Past President Lynn Balfour appointed me to be responsible for the following two Committees; Awards and Charity/ Fundraising. The Awards responsibility is important because recognizing those persons who have demonstrated their contribution has benefited the membership or enhanced this organization is an important historic link. The Charity and Fundraising responsibility will formalize the fine work and support our members and guests contribute annually. Following the 2003 OBOA AMTS in Collingwood and in memory of one of our members, CBO Terry Dalkowski, OBOA has raised $ 50,000 for breast cancer research, the same disease that claimed Terry. Starting in 2010, Steve Murphy and I will Co-Chair the responsibilites of the Charity Fundraising duties.
I look forward in continuing with the Engineers, Architects and Building Officials (EABO) Committee as well.
The EABO group includes members from various disciplines, the professionals include; PEO, CEO, OAA and Building Officials (OBOA, TACBOC & LMCBO). John Dorris from the Town of Milton (municipal employee) and I attend on behalf of OBOA. John is an Architect and a veteran member at the EABO meetings.
Dating back to the 2005 AMTS, one of the reasons I agreed to volunteer as a Board of Director with this professional organization was to improve and increase communication to our membership including our partners. Communication is one key component to a functional organization and leading by example is my objective.
