In April 2022, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) conducted a survey to Ontario’s Building Officials in response to specific recommendations from the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario’s Value for Money Audit entitled “Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Energy Use in Buildings (2020). The survey covered the following:

  1. Compliance verification practices for the Building Code’s energy efficiency requirements; and
  2. Support gaps based on knowledge of Part 12, SB-12 and SB-10 and tools to help with learning.

The results of this survey are now ready and outlined in a presentation slide deck for your information.

The results that relate to compliance verification practices can be used to validate current ways of operating and/or spur the adoption of new practices. The results related to support gaps can be used to help training providers hone in on certain areas of the 2012 Building Code’s energy efficiency requirements that are relatively less well understood.
