The OBOA welcomes new President for a two-year term
October 13, 2021, Vaughan, Ont. – The Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA) has appointed Building Engineer, Joyanne Beckett to lead the organization as President of the Board of Directors for a two-year term.
“I am honoured to take on this role as President of the OBOA,” she says. “I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues on the Board and across the building sector as we continue to support members, foster relationships and build awareness of the important role of building officials. Together we can continue to improve the building industry as a whole.”
A member of the OBOA Board of Directors since 2014, Beckett is also the Chair of the Education Committee and former Chair of the Certification Committee.
Grant Brouwer moves into the role of Immediate Past President after his two-year term. The new OBOA Board of Directors for the 2021-2022 term is as follows:
President – Joyanne Beckett, Manager, Building Division, City of Kitchener
President-Elect – Andy Jones, CBO for the Town of Gravenhurst
Vice President, Director Region D – John W. Lane, CBO for the City of St. Catharines
Registrar, Director Region A – Francois Couture, Coordinator of Plans Examination for the City of Sault Ste Marie
Secretary-Treasurer, Director Region B – Shawn Merriman, CBO for the Town of Prescott
Director, Region E – Leslie Wright, Digital Transformation Specialist, City of Windsor
Director at Large – Barbara Waldron, CBO for the Municipality of Trent Lakes
Director, Region F – Carl Kolbe – Manager of Building Services and Deputy CBO for the City of Pickering
Director at Large – Terry Kuipers, CBO for the Town of Minto
Immediate Past President – Grant Brouwer, Director of Building and Development & CBO, Town of St. Mary’s
“I would like to thank Grant Brouwer for leading the OBOA for the past two years,” says Beckett. “Grant exercised strong leadership through the state-of-emergency and brings valuable insight and experience to the Board of Directors in his role as Immediate Past President.”
