Updates to Ontario's Building Code Act

Eliminating Minister's Rulings for construction products approved by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing amended the Building Code Act, 1992 on June 5, 2025, pertaining to Minister's Rulings under clause 29(1)(a).

As part of Ontario's commitment to reduce burdens by building faster and smarter, effective July 1, 2025, the Ministry will no longer require applications for Minister's Rulings for innovative construction products evaluated by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre. To create certainty, clarity, and consistency during the building permit application process for all innovative products evaluated by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre, the Ministry will revoke existing Minister's Rulings, since they are no longer required.

This change is part of the government's broader effort to streamline approval processes and support innovation in Ontario's construction sector.
