Ontario CodeNews Issue 385: Amendments to Ontario's 2024 Building Code: Sleeping Area Requirements for Provincial Adult Correctional Institutions

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has amended Ontario's Building Code to remove minimum sleeping area requirements as set out in Sentence 3.7.1.3.(1) of Division B for provincial adult correctional institutions.

The amendment only applies to adult correctional institutions. Sleeping area requirements in all other Group B (Institutional) occupancies remain unchanged. Other health, safety and accessibility requirements for provincial adult correctional institutions remain unchanged. 

These changes are now included in an updated Ontario Amendment Document, which serves as the official document that contains the above changes. The changes are highlighted with a yellow background in the unofficial copy of the Ontario Amendment Document.
