The OBOA welcomes a new President and new Board members for 2023-2024
October 6, 2023, Vaughan, Ont. – At the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 26th, the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA) announced new Board of Directors for 2023-24.
For the next two years, the OBOA Board of Directors will be led by President, Andy Jones who has been a member of the OBOA for 30 years, with 12 years on the Board of Directors.
“As I step into the role as President of the organization, I know there is a lot to do,” says Andy. “With the help of an engaged board of directors, I’m confident that we will continue to strengthen the OBOA and support building officials across Ontario.”
Andy takes the reins from Joyanne Beckett who moves into the role of Immediate Past-President.
“I would like to thank Joyanne Beckett for her leadership and guidance over the past two years. She really moved us forward and we are in good shape to continue our efforts,” says Andy.
Two new Board members, Tim Benedict, and Angelo DiCicco were acclaimed at the AGM to fill two vacant roles.
With the appointment of John Lane as President-elect Region D is now vacant. Region F is also remains vacant. The OBOA will be posting an expression of interest to fill these director roles.
The OBOA Board of Directors for the 2023-2024 term is as follows:

President-elect – John Lane, Chief Building Official, City of St. Catharines
Immediate Past-President – Joyanne Beckett, Manager Building Services, City of Hamilton
Vice President – Shawn Merriman, Manager of Building and By-law & Chief Building Official, Town of Prescott
Secretary/Treasurer and Director at Large – Charles Bray, Chief Building Official, City of Cornwall
Registrar & Director, Region A– Francois Couture, Coordinator, Plans Examination, City of Sault Ste. Marie
Director Region C – Chris Nagy, Chief Building Official, City of Huntsville
Director, Region E – Angelo DiCicco, Manager of Building Services, City of St. Thomas
Director at Large – Tim Benedict, Manager, Building, City of Kitchener
Director at Large – Terry Kuipers, Chief Building Official, Town of Minto
The OBOA Board of Directors meets twelve times per year to discuss strategies, partnerships and decisions that will support the building industry in Ontario.
